Find your purpose in life.

Once upon a time, a man was walking along a seashore when he noticed that the tide had brought thousands of small fishes to the shore and all were dying as they were out of water. This man who was walking up the shore started picking up the fishes one by one and started throwing them back into the sea. He started doing his work painstakingly one by one but since thousands of the fishes had washed ashore it was a herculean task. Another man who was walking by was astonished to see him doing this act. He could not contain his curiosity and asked him as there are so many fishes which have been washed ashore, what difference he is going to make by this act of benevolence. The man who was throwing back the fish into the sea, picked up another fish without looking up and threw it back to the sea and said see it made a difference to that fish.

So one act of benevolence however small it may seem is enough to ensure that you have some purpose in life. And you are not like a piece of the log which is adrift for years in the vast ocean. A man’s life has been provided by God to ensure that he should have some purpose in life. Or else he may just turn out to be a living creature who just eats and sleeps without a purpose in his life. So make a difference in your life. Don’t be like an animal. Be a real human being who has been sent into this world with a sound purpose for his life.

What is the purpose of our life? This question haunts me day in and day out. Is it just eating, sleeping, walking roaming here and there, talking, etc? Or does it have some deep purposeful meaning for which we have been sent by God in this otherwise beautiful world?

After giving careful thought to this issue, let us begin to see the reason for our coming to this world. I think the very purpose of our coming to this world is to make a difference for the better. Our purpose would be to how we could make this world a better place to live for the weakest and the most downtrodden. The number of people to whom we make a difference does not matter. All it matters is that even if we can make one person’s life better our purpose of coming into this world would be amply served. The volume or the numbers do not exactly matter after all.

Try to extend a helping hand to fellow creatures who are helpless and weak. Help them in any way you can so that they can also live a dignified life of existence in this world.
